The original owner and builder of the Miller House, an attorney named William Price, achieved a bit of notoriety a few years after the house was built — by serving as the defense attorney for one of early Maryland's most notorious murderers. William Price was born in Washington County in 1794, and he studied law at Dickinson College before beginning a successful career in Hagerstown. Price purchased a lot on West Washington Street in 1823, and by 1825, he moved his family into the newly-constructed Federal-style townhouse that now houses the Washington County Historical Society.
